Furthermore, it is responsible for support personnel such as&nbsp;crew control&nbsp;planners, dispatchers and&nbsp;meteorologists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-0-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-27068632d4d5c1631d38a58611a1cc50\" style=\"font-size:16px;line-height:1.4\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-0-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-9fc1ca97106257d5d0efaacc2b39182b\" style=\"font-size:16px;line-height:1.4\">Another function of flight ops is to ensure that aircraft and flight crews are in the right place at the right time to operate flights. The department also ensures that aircraft have been well maintained according to the&nbsp;maker\u2019s&nbsp;maintenance&nbsp;schedules so that the aircraft are fully&nbsp;serviceable&nbsp;and safe to operate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-0-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-27068632d4d5c1631d38a58611a1cc50\" style=\"font-size:16px;line-height:1.4\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-0-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-4ea97a4f5de8381add6f4544907aad68\" style=\"font-size:16px;line-height:1.4\">Flight ops also has an important responsibility to ensure that pilots are&nbsp;current, or&nbsp;up to date, with their government-issued Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) in Europe, or Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) in the USA. One major&nbsp;requirement&nbsp;is that all pilots must&nbsp;undergo&nbsp;refresher training every six months in a \u2018ground simulator\u2019 where, in a lifelike flying environment, they practise many emergencies such as how to&nbsp;handle&nbsp;engine failure during take-off and landing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-0-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-839ec571bcc57ce7ef1ef17f1220cab0\" style=\"font-size:16px;line-height:1.4\">With regard to cabin crew members, every twelve months they are required to take and pass an exam on \u2018Safety and Emergency Procedures\u2019 (SEP) for each type of aircraft on which they operate. If pilots or cabin crew fail their various exams, they are allowed to retake them but if they fail again, their licences are&nbsp;suspended&nbsp;and they are unable to work in the airline as flight crew.
